Multinet is the largest distributor of natural gas in Victoria and serves connections in Melbourne's inner and outer eastern and southeastern suburbs. Multinet distributes approximately a third of Victoria's annual gas load. In the year ended 31 December 2006, Multinet's distribution network supplied 59.1 PJ of gas to 646,600 sites. Multinet's distribution network includes 172 kilometres of transmission pressure pipelines, 9,241 kilometres of mains.

Gas penetration of households in Melbourne is the highest in Australia and penetration in Multinet's service territory is approximately 95%. Residential connection represents 97% of the 646,600 gas end users serviced by Multinet.

Alinta Asset Management ("Alinta") provides operational services to Multinet Gas under contract. Multinet has contracted Alinta Asset Management to be responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the gas distribution network, servicing Melbourne's east.
