Company Ownership

Multinet Gas is a Victorian gas distribution business created when the Government owned Gas and Fuel Corporation was corporatised in the 1990's. Multinet was subsequently privatised in 1999 when a consortium of AMP Capital Investors (formally AMP Henderson) and Aquila (formally UtiliCorp United) purchased the business. In early 2003 Multinet Gas' ownership was restructured with the AMPCI owned Diversified Utility and Energy Trust (DUET) in partnership with Alinta Ltd, a publicly listed utility, purchasing the business. DUET became a listed entity in the middle of 2004 and as such both of Multinet Gas' shareholders are publicly listed entities. DUET currently owns 79.9% of Multinet Gas with remaining 20.1% owned by Alinta Ltd.

DUET is primarily an asset management trust that has interests in a number of utilities throughout Australia including Mutlinet Gas, United Energy, Alinta Gas Networks and the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. DUET is jointly managed by AMPCI and Macquarie Bank Limited.

Alinta is primarily an asset manager and operator that has evolved from the privatisation of the Western Australian gas industry. Alinta managers and operates a number of gas transmission pipelines, gas distribution networks and power stations throughout Australia and New Zealand.
