Bushfire Preparation
Alinta Asset Management is the prime contractor on behalf of the asset owner Multinet Gas.
The number one priority is the safety of all employees, contractors and the public. We urge every-one to stay focused and keep safe during the bush fire season.
As a distribution business our aim is to minimise risk and alleviate potential gas hazards for our stakeholders. During the Bush Fire Season, this is particularly important during periods of High Fire Danger and on days of Total Fire Ban.
The following safety tips are recommended when a bushfire approaches.
Gas Supply at your house in a bushfire emergency.
Mulitnet gas recommends that the gas supply to household premises should be turned off before the immediate danger of a bushfire impacts on the premises. If people elect to leave their premises prior to the impact of a bushfire, then the gas supply should be turned off before leaving.
How to safely turn off your Gas Supply
1. Turn off all your household appliances (cooker, oven, heaters, hot water service), including the pilot lights.
2. Locate your gas meter. The meter is usually located at the side or front of your house.
3. Turn the valve at the gas meter to the “OFF” position - Rotate the handle 90º from the vertical “ON” position. The supply isolating valve is located on the inlet of the gas meter assembly and is a quarter turn valve. The meter is off when the handle is horizontal with the ground.
Gas Supply Valve On
Gas Supply Valve Off
If you do not know where your meter and service valve is on your property, contact your gas retailer. If you are unable to turn off the gas supply service valve or are not confident about doing so, arrange for your gas company, a fire crew or State Emergency Services crew to turn off your gas supply.
After a bushfire DO NOT turn on the gas supply without first consulting a gasfitter or your gas retailer.
Turning Gas supplies back on
If the immediate area has been subjected to bushfires, DO NOT turn the gas supply on until advised by Multinet Gas. Please contact Multinet Gas to confirm it is safe to do so.
In some cases, Multinet Gas may be required to shutdown the local gas main network.
It may be several days before gas supplies can be restored. Please contact faults and emergences’ on 132691 if you have any further questions.
