Basic new connections

A new connection is for a property that does not have supply or metering set up. If the premises has been supplied with electricity already and it just needs to be reconnected, please go to Energisation.

A basic new connection must meet the following criteria:

  • Less than 100MWhrs per year
  • For temporary supply to premises, supply is less than 100A per phase
  • There is only a single point of supply to the premises
  • There is not an embedded network within the premises
  • If the connection is for an overhead powerline, then the connection does not require more than 20 metres of extension of powerlines located within the property boundary of the premises, and does not require more than 45 metres of extension of powerlines from the distribution pole which will be used to service the premises
  • If the proposed connection is underground and there is an existing pit available (if you require an underground pit to be installed first, please see the negotiated connections process before proceeding)
  • No augmentation of the distribution network is required
  • No CT metering is required (if you require a CT meter installation, please see the negotiated connections process before proceeding).

If you satisfy the above criteria, please follow our step by step guide below:

  • Basic new connections step by step guide

  • Step 1

You and/or your Registered Electrical Contractor (REC) will need to contact your retailer of choice to request connection.

Note: A Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES) form completed by your REC and an Electrical works request (EWR) is required as part of your application to your retailer of choice.

  • Step 2

UE will receive your new connection request (and associated paperwork – CES and EWR) from your retailer of choice. We will then schedule the basic new connection.
