Multinet is Bringing Natural Gas to South Gippsland
Multinet Gas, with the support of the State Government of Victoria's $70 Million Natural Gas Extension Program, will reticulate natural gas in five South Gippsland towns: Inverloch, Korumburra, Lang Lang, Leongatha and Wonthaggi. The location of these towns is shown on the Distribution Area Map.
The project to connect Inverloch, Korumburra, Lang Lang, Leongatha and Wonthaggi to natural gas is worth approximately $50 million. The project will involve laying of over 250 km gas pipes - making gas available to approximately 10,000 properties in the five nominated towns. Construction commenced in 2007 with the rollout occurring over a three-year period to 2010.
Multinet Gas has contracted Alinta Asset Management to be the project manager responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the new gas network. For more information about Alinta, please go to the Alinta Website. For more information about Regional Development Victoria, please go to the Victoria State Government Regional Development website.
Alinta has commenced construction of the natural gas distribution mains in Lang Lang to supply natural gas to the township of Lang Lang. Alinta has also commenced construction of the main gas transmission pipeline to supply gas from the Bass Gas Plant in Lang Lang/Nyora to the townships of Korumburra, Leongatha, Wonthaggi and Inverloch.
Public information sessions and community consultation are scheduled to commence when gas is approaching the respective townships.
Further updates will be provided in due course.
Benefits of reticulated natural gas
By connecting to natural gas, residents and businesses will have opportunity to select from a wider range when purchasing new appliances such as heaters, hot water units and cooktops. Natural gas is safe, reliable, convenient, environmentally friendly and economical.
