Transmission and Distribution of Gas in Australia

Historically, distribution and retailing of gas was conducted by one company within each State, and gas customers had no choice of supplier. However, in recent years, these activities have been separated so that energy companies may now distribute gas on behalf of more than one retailer and can compete for customers in other States and Territories.
