Incentives to Connect to Natural Gas

To assist residents to connect to natural gas, Multinet Gas will be offering substantial financial incentives.

These incentives are only available for a limited time (up to 6 months from when gas is available to customer or when the total incentives fund is exhausted, whichever occurs first) and only available when electing to connect to natural gas. These incentives are limited and residents are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible as their applications will be processed in order of receipt. This rebate can also be obtained directly from the gas retailer on behalf of the customer where the gas retailer may arrange for the conversion and connection to natural gas (see brochure for full conditions).

The Incentive Rebate is not applicable to residents outside the original scope of works where any new additional gas extensions are required.

1.1 Rebate on conversion costs

A rebate of up to a maximum of $500 (one off offer) per connection is available for each property. This may be used for :

A rebate up to a maximum of $300 (one off offer) per property is available to assist with the upgrade or purchase of new appliances to replace those appliances that cannot be converted to natural gas. These may include : 

The Rebate incentives are not applicable to any other appliances apart from the listed.   

To find out whether appliances can be converted to natural gas, the customer should contact a licenced gas fitter, who can give them an independent assessment. To arrange connection, residents must first contact a licensed gas retailer to arrange a gas service through Jemena.  A list of current gas retailers is listed below (you will need to ensure that these licenced gas retailers are active in the South Gippsland Region to retail gas to the townships of Lang Lang, Korumburra, Leongatha, Wonthaggi and Inverloch :

A gas retailer may also provide assistance for customers with the assessment of their appliances and arrange conversion.

1.3 Easy steps to Connect to Natural Gas

1. You need to ensure that natural gas is available in your street /location (Maps are available from the Multinet website www.multinetgas.com.au or contact Jemena on 1300 131 689 (Business Hours).

2. You will need to choose a gas retailer and enter into a supply contract with them. You can ring 1300 131 689 (Business hours) for further information on their contact details or visit the ESC website for a licensed gas retailer.

3. Your gas retailer will coordinate with Jemena Asset Management the installation of the gas service line to your property.

4. You will need to arrange a qualified gas fitter to assess the suitability of your appliances or install new appliances and a fitting line to take natural gas supply.

5. Your gas fitter will coordinate with your gas retailer to arrange for Jemena Asset Management to install the gas meter once you are ready to connect.

6. Your gas fitter will arrange final connection with Jemena Asset Management, which will include testing prior to commissioning.

7. Once this process is completed, a request for a rebate (up to maximum $500 for conversion and $300 for new appliances- Max $800 per property) can be made to Jemena for a rebate to be paid (with all appropriate paperwork).
