Regulatory Issues

In July 1997 the former Gas and Fuel Corporation was disaggregated into three gas distributors (Multinet, TXU and Envesta) and their related gas retailers, which were then sold to private industry. The Essential Services Commission (ESC) regulates gas distribution in Victoria pursuant to the Gas Industry Act 2001, the Essential Services Commission Act 2001 and the National Gas Code. The ESC sets distributors' prices and service standards for the distribution of gas in Victoria.
