$500 Existing Home New Connection Bonus


Take advantage of the special once-off $500 new connection bonus from Multinet Gas Networks (MGN) and enjoy the reliability and convenience of natural gas for your home.

How much is the bonus?

Subject to Terms and Conditions, existing homes that connect to natural gas for the very first time and install at least one natural gas appliance will qualify for a once-off $500 new connection bonus from MGN.

In addition to the connection bonus, appliance rebates are available for the installation of each new natural gas appliance. A $500 rebate is available for the installation of major natural gas appliances (hot water, flued room heating, whole of home heating, pool or spa heating) and $100 rebates are available for the installation of any other natural gas appliance (including cooktops, ovens, barbeque, and outdoor heating appliances). Who is eligible for the connection bonus?

Rebates are available to existing home customers in the Multinet Gas Networks (MGN) area, in Victoria, that connect their property to natural gas for the very first time. For a list of eligible postcodes, check out this list.

Properties re-connecting to natural gas are ineligible for the connection bonus. A gas service must be fully completed in order for the connection bonus to be paid. This means the service line, consumer pipework and gas meter must be fully installed, with at least one natural gas appliance connected and ready for household use.

 

Does the connection bonus apply to customers building a new home?

No. Appliances installed in new build properties are excluded from this offer.

 

How long will the connection bonus be available?

The connection bonus is available during the 2022 Promotion Period, which is 1 April 2022 to 31 December 2022. Claiming deadlines apply. Connections completed outside of the current promotion period are ineligible. See our Terms and Conditions for more information.

 

What’s the process to claim the connection bonus?

There are two ways customers can claim the bonus (and other appliance rebates that may apply).

1. When seeking quotes, you may be offered the bonus/rebates through the shop or tradesperson installing the appliance as a “rebate” (i.e. discount from price). The bonus/rebates should be itemised on your installation invoice. If this is the case, no further action is required by you. You receive an upfront discount, and your installer seeks reimbursement from MGN afterwards – simple!

2. If you choose an installer who hasn’t offered a rebate discount, you can claim your bonus/rebates as a “cashback” after your appliance has been installed and your gas connection has been fully connected (‘commissioned’). You will need to provide a copy of the Gas Compliance Certificate and invoice/s for supply and installation of your appliance as part of the application. When you’re ready to lodge a claim direct to us, simply go to our cashback website.

Are there other offers?

If you’re switching from an electric hot water service to natural gas (or an inefficient electric heater to a more efficient natural gas heater type), the Victorian Government are offering excellent incentives too. For example, you could save a further $1000 for switching from an inefficient electric hot water system to a natural gas system! Ask your plumber for more or visit www.esc.vic.gov.au/victorian-energy-upgrades-program for more information on the Victorian Energy Upgrades program and the Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) you could claim under this program.

Want reliable, temperature-controlled hot water at your fingertips? Switch an electric, solar, heat pump or LPG hot water service to a natural gas model and claim a $500 hot water rebate.

How much is the rebate?

Subject to Terms and Conditions, existing homes that switch from a non-natural gas hot water system (e.g. electric hot water system) to a natural gas hot water system can take advantage of a $500 hot water rebate. This offer is for dedicated natural gas hot water appliances, only (i.e. not dual-fuel). The $500 hot water rebate does not apply when a natural gas hot water system is replaced or downgraded.

If a dual-fuel hot (i.e. gas-boosted solar) or a secondary hot water appliance is installed, a lesser rebate of $100 may apply instead.

How long will the $500 heating rebate be available?

The promotion period varies depending on the gas connection type.

1. If a property has had a gas meter connected for more than 6 months (or if it is re-connecting to natural gas), it will be categorised as an ’Existing Service’ connection type. The $500 heating promotion period for Existing Service customers is 1 April 2022 to 31 July 2022. For appliances purchased by 31 July 2022, a two month grace period to accommodate installation and cashback application will apply. An off-season heating rebate of $100 will then be offered until 31 December 2022. Eligible heating appliances purchased from 1 August 2022 and 31 December 2022 will also be offered the $100 off-season heating rebate.

2. If an established dwelling connects to natural gas for the first time, it will be categorised as a ‘New Connection’ for 6 months from the meter installation date. The $500 heating promotion period for New Connection customers is 1 April 2022 to 31 December 2022. For appliances purchased between 1 November 2022 and 31 December 2022, a two month grace period to accommodate installation and cashback application will apply.

$100 off natural gas cooking

$100 to $500 of outdoor and other natural gas appliances

Take advantage of a $500 rebate for installing natural gas pool or spa heating (if the heater is a combined unit that heats both the pool and spa, then only 1 x $500 rebate applies).

Other outdoor appliances such as barbeque, pizza over, alfresco outdoor kitchen burners, and toasty warm radiant patio heaters receive $100 rebate per appliance.
