Initial details

You can verify if your property is within the network using the MGN - Is-Gas Available

For commercial sites, requests are managed separately. Please send your request to mgnstakeholderrelations@agig.com.au and our team will assist you.

A gas life support customer is someone who relies on essential medical equipment that requires a gas supply.

For safety reasons, we cannot process a gas abolishment request while a gas life support registration is active for this property.

Please contact your gas retailer to confirm that the gas life support registration has been removed before submitting this request.

If there has never been a gas retailer account or a registered gas life support customer at this property, please return to the previous question and select the option that best applies to your circumstances.

You will need to contact your gas retailer to arrange this request.

If you're unsure who your retailer is, check your gas bill or visit the Victorian Government's list of energy retailers.

If there is no gas meter at the property, we may need to confirm the connection status before processing your request. Please email MGN Stakeholder Relations at mgnstakeholderrelations@agig.com.au and include the property address.

Abolishment is the permanent removal of a gas connection and is appropriate where gas will no longer be required at the property.

In most cases, customers who choose abolishment do not reconnect to gas in the future. If gas supply is required again, a new gas connection application may need to be submitted, subject to regulatory requirements, approvals and applicable charges.

Victorian customers: From 1 January 2027, restrictions on new gas connections may apply under Victorian Government regulations. Please consider this before selecting abolishment.

Disconnection is the temporary closure of a gas connection where gas is not required for a period of time, such as during renovations or while a property is vacant.

The gas infrastructure generally remains in place, allowing the gas supply to be reconnected in the future

Disconnection does not remove the gas service pipe from the property. Gas may still be present within the service pipe, which can pose a safety risk if the pipe is disturbed (for example, during excavation works).

Any future reconnection must be arranged through your gas retailer.

If you are permanently removing gas and switching to electricity, select Abolishment.
